Excavation & Site Work
Dirt Work, Grading, and Site Preparation
Every building project starts with the ground. Whether you are putting up a new home, adding a garage, or pouring a foundation for an addition, the excavation has to be right or nothing above it will be. We dig foundations for full basements, crawl spaces, slab pads, and footings. We set grade to spec, remove unsuitable material, and make sure the subgrade is solid before any concrete goes in.
We handle land clearing for new construction and overgrown properties. That means taking down trees, grinding stumps, removing brush, and hauling off debris. If you have a wooded lot that needs to become a building site, we do the full clearing and rough grading to get it ready for construction.
Drainage is one of the most overlooked parts of site work, and it causes the most problems down the road when it is done wrong. We grade every site with proper slope away from structures and install French drains, dry wells, swales, and curtain drains to move water where it needs to go. If you have water pooling against your foundation or a yard that stays soggy, we fix it.
We excavate for driveways, parking areas, and access roads. We also dig utility trenches for water lines, sewer connections, electric conduit, and septic systems. All trenching is done to code depth with proper bedding material, and everything gets backfilled and compacted when the work is done.
Retaining walls are part of a lot of site work projects, especially on sloped lots. We build walls to hold back grade changes and create usable flat areas. After excavation, we handle all backfill and compaction so the site is stable and ready for the next phase of construction.
We serve Port Jervis, Milford PA, Matamoras, Sparrowbush, and Montague, along with the rest of Orange County NY, Pike County PA, and Sussex County NJ. If you have a project that needs dirt work, give us a call and we will come take a look at the site.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does excavation include?
Excavation covers digging for foundations, footings, basements, and utility lines. It also includes removing soil, rock, stumps, and debris to prepare a site for construction. We handle everything from initial clearing to final grading.
Do you handle grading and drainage?
Yes. We grade lots to establish proper slope away from structures and install drainage solutions including French drains, dry wells, swales, and curtain drains. Good drainage prevents water damage to foundations and keeps yards usable.
Can you dig a foundation for a new home?
Absolutely. We excavate for full basements, crawl spaces, slab foundations, and footings for additions and garages. We dig to spec, set proper elevations, and make sure the soil is stable before the foundation crew comes in.
Do you do septic system excavation?
Yes. We dig for new septic tanks, leach fields, and distribution boxes. We also handle excavation for septic system replacements and repairs. All work is done to local health department specifications.
How long does site work take?
Most residential site work takes 3 to 10 days depending on the scope. A simple foundation dig might take a couple days, while full lot clearing with grading and drainage can take a week or more. Weather and soil conditions are the biggest variables.
Do I need a permit for excavation?
In most cases, yes. Foundation excavation, septic work, and utility trenching typically require permits from your local building or health department. We handle the permit process and coordinate inspections so you do not have to deal with it.
What about utility trenching?
We dig trenches for water lines, sewer lines, electric conduit, gas lines, and septic connections. We work with utility companies and follow all depth and setback requirements. Everything gets backfilled and compacted properly when the lines are in.
